Overview

The KPI Library gives you a single place to see and manage all of the KPIs available in your Joiin account. You can open it from the KPI Library option on the left-hand menu.

The Library brings together every KPI you can use across Joiin:

  • Built-in KPIs - the standard KPIs Joiin calculates for you, such as Gross Profit Margin, EBITDA and Net Profit
  • Non-Financial Data items you have added - see our Non-Financial Data article for more information
  • KPIs from your Custom Layouts - Formulas you have marked as Available as KPI
  • KPIs you create yourself, directly in the Library

For each KPI you can see its category, source and formula - and, importantly, where it is used across your Dashboards, reports and Report Packs, so you can check the impact before changing or deleting anything.

You can also create your own KPIs directly in the Library using the Formula Editor, without needing to create a Custom Layout first. KPIs created here can be displayed on your Dashboard and in Report Pack charts, just like built-in KPIs.

NOTE: The KPI Library is currently in beta. It is available to all customers and we are continuing to improve it — we'd love your feedback.

The KPI Library page

The KPI Library page shows every KPI in your account in a single list.

At the top you can narrow down the list:

  • Tabs - switch between All, Built-in (the standard Joiin KPIs and your Non-Financial Data items) and Custom (KPIs from your Custom Layouts and KPIs created in the Library). Each tab shows a count.
  • Search - find KPIs by name, or by anything in their formula.
  • Categories - filter by category (for example Profitability or Non-Financial Data) by clicking the category chips. You can select more than one. Only categories you have KPIs in are shown.

Each KPI in the list shows:

ColumnDescription
NameThe name of the KPI.
TypeWhether the KPI is a Formula or an Account Group total. Hover over the icon to see the type.

Formula - a KPI which is calculated from a Formula
Account Group - a KPI which is the total of a group of accounts
CategoryThe KPI's category, e.g. Revenue, Profitability, Working Capital & Liquidity.

If the source is a Custom Layout you can click on the layout name to bring up the edit screen for that layout.

You can sort the list by Name, Category, Source or Used in by clicking on the column headings.

Adding a KPI

You can add a new KPI directly from the KPI Library page by clicking on the Add KPI button. KPIs added here will be available to use within Chart Widgets that can be placed on Dashboards or Report Packs.

There are two options when you click on Add KPI:

Formula KPI

Build a formula directly from within the KPI Library page and save it as a KPI. The KPI will appear in the list and be available to use in Chart Widgets as a KPI Library sourced KPI.

When you select this option you will see the Formula Editor where you can create your formula. For more information see the Custom Layouts formula options and the  Formula Editor article.

On an existing Layout

This gives you the option of using a Group or Formula from one of your existing Custom Layouts as a KPI. You will be presented with a list of Custom Layouts - click on one and you will be taken to the edit screen of that Layout.

From there you can find a Group or Formula that you wish to be a KPI and set the Available as KPI option on it. See Options for editing Groups or Options for editing Formulas. You can of course modify the layout further to achieve the desired metrics for the KPI you need.

Editing a Library KPI

You can edit a KPI that you have created through the KPI Library page by clicking on the edit icon to the right of the KPI.

Deleting a Library KPI

You can delete a KPI that you have created through the KPI Library page by clicking on the delete icon to the right of the KPI. You cannot delete KPIs which are being used on Dashboards or Report Packs.
