Now you can choose to compare by Period as well as By Company or By Category, giving you another dimension to your reporting.

Hi Mike, We are working on a report showing tracking categories over time (the original topic of this thread), and it should be released soon.
Regarding your specific request to have Tracking categories shown on the Trial Balance, our product team is investigating the feasibility of this. However, our investigation is at an early stage, so we cannot indicate timelines. So, it would be fair to say it would be a case of Months, not weeks.

Hi Harry, is this development more like 3 months away from release, or 3 years? As I see from the conversation trail it has been requested for a couple of years now. Appreciate the priority you release new functionality, but it is a showstopper for my purposes so I need a good indication of just how far away this functionality is.

We are currently undertaking a 'research spike' on tracking categories and improvements we can make around them in Joiin. This comes on the back of popular demand for tracking categories split out by month (the original topic of this thread) and a few other enhancements.
One of these enhancements will allow users to split their Balance Sheet and trial balances by category.
As soon as we have these features implemented and live on the Joiin app, I will notify you and this forum.
As a rule, we tend to implement features based on popularity. While the tracking category improvements I mentioned above were popular requests, there were others that were more popular, namely improvements to the dashboards and the introduction of transaction data and drill down. Now that these features have been released, we are moving on to tracking category improvements. I wanted to share this information so you know where we are at and why, until now, we have not brought tracking categories to the balance sheet.

Wondering when will Trial Balance by Tracking Category be available? I can get this in the Translucent app, but hoping to trial Joiin instead.
Hi Andrew, thank you for your suggestion, this is something we may consider initially, depending on the complexity of the task.
Reports broken down by category/ class by month are now one of our most popular remaining feature requests, we have recently released and implemented 3 features that were very heavily requested but also labour-intensive from a development point of view. (Drill down, Search and Whoelsale improvements to the Dashboards, as well as lots of other smaller features)
We are currently mid-way through a development sprint, this report is not in this sprint however it will definitely be one of the top areas for discussion in our next dev meeting, based on its popularity.

Hi Harry - we really need this too.
As an initial workaround could you allow a Dimension filter on a report which would then show just ONE Dimension in a columnar style across months?
For example, if I wanted to see a Cost Centre of Sales in a monthly P&L format, I could go into the Joiin P&L report, select the Category of Cost Centre (which is already pulled from Xero & present as an option) and then the cost centre category field of Sales (also already pulled thru).
This would then limit the data query and allow a monthly report to be produced. For those interested, this could be repeated for each variant & saved as a template.

Hi Isaac, sorry for the slight delay in getting back to you, I wanted to discuss this with my team in-house, to give you as accurate information as possible.
Tracking categories by month is one of our more requested features, so it will be something we look to do in the nearish future, however, I will stress it is a potentially large piece of work so it may take time to implement. We do not have an exact time frame at the moment, however, it is likely to be months, not years away.

Very keen for this to be developed. What do we think the realistic timescale is on getting it implemented, as this would determine whether we sign up to this package or not. The ability to report a P&L excluding certain tracking categories, by month is really important to us.

Hi Patrick, thanks for your message, we have a relatively small team here at Joiin so as I am sure you will understand, must prioritise the most popular feature requests.
We have made real strides recently in other areas of the product including, but not limited to Cashflow, KPI reports, Dashboards, Eliminations and adjustments.
The ability to run reports by Company/ Category and by period is now one of our most popular requests, so naturally is something we will now look at soon. When we begin work on this I will update this forum as well as when we complete the implementation.

Where is this feature? This was promised 9 months ago and we are now looking at alternative software if Joiin can't deliver this in a timely manner, I can't see that it would be that difficult.
I am waiting for this feature before i can sign up to your software.
I have clients that runs on tracking category P&L, thus, it is absolutely crucial to have this feature.

We appreciate running reports by Categories for multiple time periods is important to you, the good news is it is an existing part of our roadmap and is something we will be exploring in the future.

This must be done ASAP as it should be a simple report that is holding back the reporting capabilities of the software

It will be useful to have the option to filter reports by Tracking Category (e.g. by Location) and Compare them to previous period, to see the evolution of one tracking category through a period of time.
Is there any way to do this right now?
